The tragedy of Hurricane Sandy has been felt throughout the country. At Travelmobs, we know so many people; men, women and children that have been effected in New York and New Jersey and we don’t want anyone to forget. There is a great need. Here is a list of organizations that you can help with your time and money.
N.J. Emergency Response Hotline – 1-800-JERSEY-7. Back-up hotlines are 609-775-5236 or 908-303-0471, and volunteers can email rowena.madden@sos.state.nj.us.
Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund – Those who want to donate can visit the fund’s website or can mail them to Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, P.O. Box 95, Mendham, NJ 07945-0095.
Blood Center of New Jersey – The organization is holding several emergency blood drives. Visit www.bloodnj.org for more information.
The Humane Society of the United States – The organization is accepting donations to help with its efforts in New Jersey and New York via its website. You also can text the word ANIMALS to 20222 to donate $10 to help the HSUS disaster relief fund.
Volunteermatch.org – Log on to volunteermatch.org, plug in where you want to provide help and you will find a place to match your skills with the need of your friends and neighbors.
American Red Cross – The organization is accepting donations for its Hurricane Sandy relief fund via its website. You also can call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to donate or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
United Way – Contributions to the United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund will be used by local United Ways along the Eastern Seaboard, including United Way of Northern New Jersey, to address the near-term and long-term recovery needs of communities most affected by the hurricane. Donate at uwsandyrecovery.org or by texting RECOVERY to 52000.
Salvation Army – For information on how to volunteer or make a donation, visit salvationarmynj.org or call 908-851-9300. To help support The Salvation Army of New Jersey through an online food drive, please visit www.yougivegoods.com. Donations can also be sent to P.O Box 3170, Union NJ 07083 with NJ Hurricane Sandy Relief in the memo line.
Habitat for Humanity – Habitat for Humanity works to build affordable homes throughout the world. The organization is collecting donations to help with its efforts with rebuilding following Hurricane Sandy. Visit the organization’s website for more information and to donate.
